Its Hour Come Round at Last

I'm writing this post in a hurry as I get ready to meet Brian at Yale for some sort of orientation carnival. I'm very curious to see how law schools do carnivals. Will there be rides? A petting zoo? A dunk tank with the dean inside?

The reason that I'm rushing is that this will probably be my last opportunity to write before I leave for France tomorrow night. It still hasn't really hit me that this is happening so soon, and I'm still sort of bewildered by my lack of excitement. It's not that I'm ambivalent or anything, just sort of indifferent--definitely not as anxious as I was when I was 7 and getting ready to go to Disney World for a week (remember, Mom?). I think that what is different about this particular adventure is that, unlike with Disney World and college and various minor excursions like my first trip to New York, I'm generally very content with my life and the daily amount of excitement and adventure that it offers. I'm not looking to escape the tedium, just moving from one adventure to the next. While this has, perhaps, reduced my eagerness for Paris, I can't say that I regret it, and I really just want to thank all of my friends and family for making my life as wonderful and fulfilling as it is.

This summer, in particular, has really reminded me of everything and everyone that I'm thankful for. It's been the best summer in recent memory, and while I'm not dreading its end I am, for once, a little sad to see it go. Despite the generally crummy weather, it was in many ways an idyllic summer--bike rides, beach trips, bonfires in the backyard, walks, ice cream, drive-in movies, hammock naps, camping-- and I had a blast sharing it with everyone. So, thanks!

That said, I really am looking forward to being in Paris. I'm having a hard time imagining myself there so soon, but I know that I am going to have a great time. I promise to post as often as possible and to take pictures and to share without censorship any embarrassing stories, since those are the most entertaining. I also promise not to over-infuse every post with French phrases, since that is a little hackneyed and annoying (and, according to George Orwell, unfashionably pretentious). When I write to you again, it will be from the other side of the Atlantic!

Quick update: Attended the Yale Law School "carnival." No rides/farm animals/dunk tank, but plenty of food and important people. Also a number of tools for Brianne to call out, but mostly everyone seemed nice and equally afraid of one another. Still, glad to have a boy who is smarter than them all ;).

  2. Jealous, to say the least, that in a days time you will be in Paris. Enjoy, and I will indeed correspond with you soon...
